River Pool Enhancement Project - January 22nd

Join Thames21 on Wednesday 22 January from 10am until 3pm!

This is a project to improve the look and dynamism of the River Pool, one of our three Lewisham Rivers.

This project aims to transform sections of the river with in-stream structures to speed up the flow and make it a more attractive river for wildlife and people alike.

Volunteers will gain new skills, make a difference, and learn more about rivers and riparian habitats.

All equipment and tea will be provided. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is part of Thames21 waterways improvements and restoration projects and has been supported by Biffa, LB of Lewisham and the Environment Agency.

Meet: at the bridge on Winsford Road, SE6. Map

Thames21 meets each Wednesday and invites volunteers who wish to join the organisation to the Wednesday clean-ups.

FREE Walk: Lower Sydenham to Catford

Tues, 21 January, 2pm

E:  [email protected]  W: www.creeksidecentre.org.uk

Pass through a landscape that was part of the Kent countryside until little over a century ago. It has changed radically in the move from agrigultural to recreational but there are still species haning on that have a direct lineage to the past countryside.

Please reserve a space via email and provide a contact number.

FREE WALK: Catford to Ladywell

Tues, 28 January, 2pm

E: [email protected] W: www.creeksidecentre.org.uk

Ladywell Fields has superficially stayed pretty much the same since old times. It has mostly never been built on. It still retains some elements of the historic past but it has been altered almost as much in ways less visible unless one looks beyond the general green look to the detail of that greenery. And that tells a story of constant change.

Please reserve a space via email and provide a contact number.

The Friends of Mountsfield Park Group was constituted at their AGM last week. The group and Rory McNally the Chair can be contacted by email: [email protected] or through their Mountsfield Park Blog.

The Cafe of Good Hope, the popular cafe and meeting place set up by the Jimmy Mizen Foundation has been awarded the contract for the soon to be built cafe in nearby Mountsfield Park.

Local residents have campaigned for a decent cafe for Mountsfield for some time and had to push the council into seriously considering the business case for permanent cafe.
