New Planters for Hither Green Lane!

Earlier this month the Hither Green Community Association won a Capital Clean Up grant from the Mayor of London.

Capital Clean-up aims to encourage Londoners do their bit and help rejuvenate neglected parts of the city. Events include canal clean-ups, litter picks, habitat restoration, and graffiti removal.  It is also part of the Mayor’s 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy, encouraging Londoners to do something great for their city.

Boris is Boris,  but this spring’s Capital Clean-up DOES provide a 'fantastic opportunity to roll up your sleeves and put something back into your local neighbourhood.'

Thanks to his Campaign, HIther Green Lane will be getting six new planters, big bountiful planters filled with gorgeous colourful planting.

Like these but with more plants! We will be announcing a big planting day shortly and hope to have lots of local Hither Greenies taking part.

WANTED: Old orchards for restoration!

WANTED! Old orchards for community restoration project this winter!

The London Orchard Project are looking for old orchards and community groups to partner with this winter as part of our restoration project.

Our 'Rediscovering London's Lost Orchard Heritage' programme will be continued from last year where we successfully began to restore 4 mature orchards, extending the lives of the trees that make up this important habitat while increasing their productivity and in some cases planting new trees for habitat continuation.

This year we're again looking for old orchards to get to work on this winter. Do you know of an old orchard that looks neglected and in need of some love? Are you part of a community who wants 'hands-on' learning about restorative pruning of fruit trees?
