This is a small, independent site created to give local gardeners a space to share their love of gardening.

From the tiny flower garden planted by Brownies in Hither Green, to large volunteer conservation projects like Chinbrook Meadows and Burnt Ash Pond, Lewisham is also blessed with passionate and generous community gardeners.

Whether you only have room for herb pots on a window sill, or you have a grand lawn with a ride-on mower- this is the place for you to talk about it!

Gardening at home

There are still things to do this autumn and winter!

Gardening for Wildlife

Urban wildlife is special! There is something admirable about animals which thrive in the built environment. They successfully negotiate acres of concrete, lawn-mowers, traffic and most dangerous of all, people.

Your own garden forms part of a 'wildlife corridor' stretching across the capital, providing a chain of habitats, enabling creatures to feed and breed and disperse through our area. Here at Lewisham Gardens you can share the animals you've spotted and also find out what you can do to attract more diverse wildlife into your garden.

Volunteer at a Community Garden

Find out more about the 80+ Community Gardens in the borough; plus there are  allotments and conservation volunteer groups too.

Grow Your Own Fruit & Veg

Its great to Grow Your Own fruit and vegetables! If you need more growing space then why not join a food growing project or get an allotment?

Training and Workshops

Train locally: learn everything from how to prune fruit trees to keeping bees and chickens. Enhance your gardening knowledge and expand your skills base!

Gardening Clubs for Children

From toddlers to teens there is a gardening activity to suit your child. Gardening is something fun you can do together, and over the weeks you can watch the progress of the plants you grow. Quick, fun things like sunflowers, radishes and strawberries are perfect starter crops. There are fun, local garden clubs for kids too, run by trained professionals.

Responsible Foraging: Wild Food!

There has been recent upsurge in interest in Britain’s edible wild plants, berries and nuts.  Forty-two people turned out for the Hither Green Forage Walk in May, there was a real  yearning expressed for local, natural ingredients, for variety and for new flavours. There wasn't a sandal or hessian bag in sight. This once forgotten skill is now positively trendy!
