Hither Green Scouts go Green!

Posted by Lewisham Gardens on November 16, 2013 at 11:50 AM

Today was such a fun day! 3rd Hither Green beavers, cubs and scouts had a rocking good time planting 300 daffodil bulbs along Hither Green Lane and in the Springbank Road Community Garden.

Together we learned about bulbs and the correct way to plant them. We learned about local wildlife - everyone had seen local foxes and today we discovered where they lived.

We also discovered worms, woodlice and talked about bees, butterflies and birds and why they are so important. There was an *awful lot* of worm naming! :)  We also sowed wildflower seed right next to Hither Green station entrance to make it pretty next year. Next we had a big lunch- with creamy hot chocolate, planted another 100 bulbs and followed that with a HUGE game of hide and seek.

Everyone took home a packet of wildflower seeds to sow at home.

  • Thank you to the beavers, cubs and scouts for their hard work in making their town look beautiful.
  • Thank you to Glenn and Elizabeth- Pack Leaders.
  • Thank you to Cordells deli on the corner of Duncrevie Road. Saints!

Note for next time- 8 year olds don't appreciate sun dried tomato.
